Deputy Principal - Years 4-6
NAPLAN
This year, NAPLAN assessment will take place for students in Year 3 and Year 5 from Wednesday, 12 March 2025 and finishes on Monday, 24 March 2025.
The purpose of NAPLAN is to assess the learning progress of literacy and numeracy skills your child is already learning at school through the school curriculum. Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The questions assess content linked to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics.
NAPLAN assessments are not about passing or failing. Encouraging your child to do the best they can on the day is the best approach for preparing your child. Excessive preparation or the use of NAPLAN coaching is not necessary or recommended. To find out more about NAPLAN, visit www.nap.edu.au.
RACQ Streets Ahead Program
The RACQ Community and Education Team will be delivering the RACQ Streets Ahead road safety lessons to Prep to Year 6 students from Tuesday 11 to Friday 14 February 2025. This program is provided free to all Queensland primary schools, and lessons will address the topics of pedestrian, passenger and riding safety through age-appropriate and interactive activities.
This program was booked for students in 2024, to go alongside the opening of the new school carpark. With the delays in the car park project, these lessons will still go ahead as planned, and be delivered in preparation for the new car park’s opening.
If you would like more information on the program, including resources to extend learning at home, visit https://www.racq.com.au/streetsahead
To evaluate this program’s content and delivery, RACQ have engaged the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety-Queensland (CARRS-Q) from Queensland University of Technology (QUT). As part of the evaluation, students in Year 5 and Year 6 have been invited to participate in a short 15–20-minute paper-based survey about the program they will participate in. Participation in the survey is voluntary, with consent forms for participation sent home with all Year 5 and Year 6 students in Week 1. If you would like your Year 5 or Year 6 child to participate in the evaluation survey, please return the consent form for participation to the office no later than Monday, 10 February 2025. All students will still attend the program session regardless of whether they will be completing the survey.
Parent Information Sessions
It was great to see so many families at our Parent Information Sessions held this week. If you are unable to attend, your child’s class teacher will send an email with the information shared to their families. The following year levels will be holding their sessions in Week 3. All sessions will be held in individual classrooms.
